How QR Code Tools works
Most online QR generators work by sending the text you type to a server, which builds the code and sends an image back — which means whatever you're encoding, whether it's a WiFi password or a customer's phone number, has to pass through someone else's infrastructure. QR Code Tools doesn't do that. Every tool on this site runs entirely inside your browser tab, using open-source JavaScript libraries.
Generating a code
As you fill in a form — a URL, a WiFi network, a contact card — the tool builds the exact text payload
that format expects (for example, WiFi networks are encoded as WIFI:T:WPA;S:...;P:...;;) and
draws the resulting QR pattern directly onto an HTML canvas element in your browser. Nothing is sent
anywhere until you click Download, at which point the image is saved straight from that canvas to your
device.
Scanning a code
The scanner works the same way in reverse. An uploaded image, or a live camera frame, is drawn onto a hidden canvas and read pixel-by-pixel by a QR-decoding library running locally in your browser. The decoded text is displayed on the page — it never leaves your device, whether it came from a photo or your camera.
Logos and styling
Foreground/background colors and an optional center logo are applied directly on the canvas after the code is drawn. Adding a logo automatically raises the error-correction level, so enough of the pattern stays intact for scanners to read around the covered area.
What "never uploaded" actually means
Concretely: nothing you type into a generator field, and no image you scan, ever leaves your device over
the network. No fetch, no form submission, no request carries that data anywhere. You can
confirm this yourself using your browser's developer tools — open the Network tab while generating or
scanning a code, and you'll see no outgoing request containing your content.
